Karina founded Kids Connect Us in July of 2018 in order to meet a growing need for in-home occupational therapy and community-integrated services, and to support families who are becoming increasingly overwhelmed by coordinating care for their children while trying to parent them.
Karina believes that kids do best when adults support and nurture the child's strengths. Karina uses a play-based, relationship-centered, child-led-adult-supported, trauma-informed approach, using lots of movement and sensory input. Parent education, reflex integration, sensory processing techniques, and games that improve postural awareness, fine motor skills, self-regulation, confidence and attention are incorporated in Karina's therapy sessions.
Karina has a masters degree in occupational therapy from San Jose State University and an undergraduate degree in Biology from UC Santa Cruz. She has received certifications as a yoga teacher, massage therapist, and elementary school science teacher, and is an innovator and leader in the field of Therapeutic Rock Climbing. Karina has post-graduate certification* and/or training in the following programs related to O.T.:
